During the mid-1980s, this Filipino actor received FAMAS and FAP Awards for his roles in, respectively, The Unfaithful Wife and Paradise Inn. He later appeared in films and television series such as Mulawin: The Movie and Rio del Mar.
When he was just fifteen years old, he made his screen debut in the television series Araw-Araw, Gabi-Gabi.
His birth name was Michael Edward Gil Eigenmann; he later adopted the professional name of Michael De Mesa.
His more than two-decade marriage to fellow FAMAS-winning entertainer Gina Alajar resulted in actor sons named AJ, Geoff, and Ryan. A decade after separating from Alajar, he married jazz dancer Julie Reyes.
He grew up in a family of entertainers: his parents, Rosemarie Gil and Eddie Mesa, both had successful acting careers, as did his siblings Mark and Cherie Gil.
