Before Fame
She began performing when she was eight years old as a singer and a tap dancer. She majored in drama in the Talent Unlimited program at Julia Richman High School. She continued professional training at respected New York studios, including Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute, HB Studio, The Acting Studio, Larry Moss Studios, Upright Citizens Brigade, and the Alvin Ailey American Dance Center. She worked primarily on the stage and in smaller screen projects before being cast on The Wire.
