Before fame
He began diving in 1960 when he was 17 years old after becoming inspired by the television series Sea Hunt. He eventually served in the U.S. Air Force and was transferred to Panama where he became one of the first YMCA-certified scuba instructors in the country. He joined Instagram in 2012.
