Indian man who assassinated peace leader Mahatma Gandhi by shooting him in January 1948. He was a member of right-wing nationalist groups like the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and was eventually hanged for the assassination.
He attended school in Baramati and later dropped out of high school to become an activist.
His crimes led to the temporary banning of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh nationalist group to which he belonged.
His parents raised him as a girl until the birth of his little brother, Gopal.
He was portrayed by actor Horst Buchholz in the 1963 film Nine Hours to Rama.
