This prominent member of the Democratic Rally Party took office in 2013 as seventh President of the Republic of Cyprus. Previously, he had served for more than three decades in the Cypriot Parliament.
After earning degrees from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and University College London, he founded the law firm Nicos Chr. Anastasiades & Partners.
He supported the United Nations' Annan Plan for the unification of the Turkish and Greek factions and states of Cyprus.
He and his twin brother were born in Pera Pedi, Cyprus. His marriage to Andri Moustakoudi began in 1971 and resulted in daughters named Elsa and Ino.
He was the seventh President of Cyprus; Makarios III was the first.
