Primarily known as a jazz artist, but also skilled at Swedish folk music and classical music.
He was a student at Stockholm's Royal College of Music, where he was taught classical composition by respected teachers Lars-Erik Larsson and Karl-Birger Blomdahl.
He received the 1990 Jussi Björling scholarship and the 2006 Litteris et Artibus medal.
He was born into a family of musicians residing in Gagnef, Dalecarlia. His uncle was Romantic composer Oskar Lindberg.
He collaborated with Duke Ellington, but declined Ellington's offer to go on the road.
