Court Justice who presided over the Federal Court of Australia from 1990 to 2009.
He studied at St. Virgil's College and at the University of Tasmania. In 1985, he became a legal advisor appointed to the Australian Queen's Counsel.
He served as the Judge in Residence at McGill University (Quebec, Canada), Samford University (Alabama, USA), the University of Tasmania, and University College Dublin.
He was born and raised in Australia.
He and Judge Lance Ito both presided over high-profile cases: Ito was the judge assigned to the O.J. Simpson murder trial, and Heerey ruled in the collusion case against prominent businessman Richard Pratt.
