Vocalist and guitarist who came to prominence in the late 80's as a member of the hardcore bands Underdog and Youth of Today. He later achieved mainstream success in the 90's with the post-hardcore group Into Another.
He grew up in Manhattan's Upper West Side, where he attended McBurney School. He played guitar in the rockabilly band The Bel-Airs.
He contributed vocals to the 1999 Deadsy track "Brand New Love."
He was married to magazine editor Samantha Kluge from 2000 to 2002. He married art dealer Jamie Harman, with whom he has children, in 2006. His mother is famed lyricist Susan Birkenhead.
He opened for artists like Carl Perkins in the 80's.
