Author, artist, ornithologist, and naturalist who inspired the environmental movement of the twentieth century. He is best remembered for a popular 1934 field guide entitled Guide to the Birds.
He published his first nature article, "Notes from Field and Study," in a magazine called Bird-lore.
He co-wrote a popular 1955 field guide called Wild America.
He was the New York-born son of German immigrant Henrietta Badar and Swedish immigrant Charles Peterson.
Like famed American naturalist John James Audubon, Peterson was a prominent ornithologist (bird watcher).
