Actor most famous for playing Ted Liversidge in the ITV situation comedy Barbara and Captain Hans Geering in the BBC sitcom 'Allo 'Allo. He also co-starred in the early 1990s series Haggard. Also a radio performer, he portrayed Carter Brandon in the BBC Radio 4's Uncle Mort's South Country and Uncle Mort's Celtic Fringe programs.

Before Fame

After working for the Civil Service in Liverpool, England, he trained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and subsequently pursued a professional stage career.

Trivia

In the last years of his life and career, he appeared in the popular children's movie Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang.

Family Life

He was raised in Manchester and Liverpool, England. For many years, he was the partner of psychologist and writer Grace Pieniazek.

He and director Mike Leigh collaborated on several film and theatrical projects, including the 1999 movie Topsy-Turvy and the 2011 Royal National Theatre production of Grief.
