All-star third baseman for the Boston Red Sox in the early 1990s, he played in two All-Star games, in 1993 and 19914.
After striking out in his first game with the Red Sox in 1990, he showed promise the following season, and became a starter in 1993.
In between his Major League stints, he spent a season with the Seibu Lions of the Pacific League in Japan.
He was born in St. Louis, Missouri.
He replaced Hall of Famer Wade Boggs at third base for the Red Sox.
