Scottish knight who led the Scottish rebellion against England. On September 11, 1297, he triumphed over the English army during a confrontation near Stirling. He is remembered as a patriot and national hero and inspired the 1995 film Braveheart. He is known for his speech in which he said "They may take our lives, but they'll never take our Freedom."
Before Fame
He is said to have spent his childhood at Dunipace, near Stirling, under the supervision of his uncle. He was trained in the martial arts, including riding and swordsmanship.
Trivia
He was more than six-and-a-half feet tall. Edward I of England offered a reward to anyone who could kill or capture him. In August 1305, he was arrested, brought to London and charged with being an outlaw and a traitor, and then executed.
Family Life
In 1291, his father Malcolm was killed in a fight with English troops. He also had an older brother called Malcolm.

In the film Braveheart, he is played by Mel Gibson.
