Most famous for such Contemporary Christian albums as After God's Own Heart and Taking Heaven By Storm, Camp is also known for hosting a Christian-themed radio program titled No Compromise with Steve Camp.
After studying music theory and composition at Chicago's Roosevelt University, he pursued further coursework in music and business law at the College of DuPage.
He recorded his first album in 1975 on the CBS Records label; the rest of his recordings were all on Christian music labels.
He grew up in Wheaton, Illinois. His first marriage ended in the early 2000s; he married his second wife in 2009.
During his teenage years, he was mentored by fellow Christian singer Larry Norman.
