Known best for founding a Welsh experimental music group called Hwyl Nofio, this guitarist and songwriter also established the London-based band Neu Electrikk and started a Yorkshire-headquartered music label called HWYL.
During his childhood years, he learned to play both the guitar and the piano. He began his involvement with experimental music after receiving an acoustic guitar with steel strings and subsequently studying the work of avant-garde composer John Cage.
He performed and recorded with members of the experimental bands Nurse with Wound and The The.
He grew up in Pontypool, Wales, as the son of an organist mother. He grew up in an industrial area of Wales -- a fact that influenced the character of his music -- and his grandfathers worked in the coal and steel industries.
He and American guitarist Beth Liebling both founded experimental music groups.
