Known best for his groundbreaking work with a Mumbai-based theatre company called Subak, Barve also had a prolific career as a film and television actor, appearing on screen in close to fifty different projects between 1989 and 2013.
Before beginning his acting career, he earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry from Patkar College, Mumbai and subsequently worked for a medical company.
The year 2010 marked the launch of his Subak company's "Herbarium" movement to revive popular interest in Marathi musical productions.
He was born and raised in Mumbai, India.
He and actress Tabu were both in the cast of a 2000 bilingual Marathi and Hindi feature film titled Astitva.
