An American fiction writer and screenwriter, she is best known for her novel-turned-screenplay, Compromising Positions. Her other works include Shining Through, Long Time No See, and As Husbands Go.
After graduating from Queens College in New York, she worked as an editor for Seventeen magazine.
Her novels have been translated into thirty languages.
She and her attorney husband, Elkan Abramowitz, welcomed a son in 1970 and a daughter in 1973.
She wrote the screenplay for Hello Again, a film starring Shelley Long.
