Before fame
He played youth soccer for WVF Zwolle, PEC Zwolle, and FC Twente. He played for amateur club CSV '28 before returning to PEC Zwolle's system. He made his professional debut for PEC Zwolle in 2017 before joining AZ Alkmaar later in 2017. He spent the 2019-20 season on loan at RKC Waalwijk before returning to AZ Alkmaar. His big break came during the 2022-23 season with AZ Alkmaar when he became a key first-team player and helped the club reach the UEFA Europa Conference League semifinals. He made his Netherlands national team debut in September 2023. His breakthrough on the global stage came after his move to AC Milan in 2023. He joined Manchester City in June 2025.
