Tony Vega

About

Puerto Rican salsa singer best known for his bestselling 1991 album, Uno Mismo, which earned platinum status. He has recorded and released more than 20 albums and has been nominated for two Latin Grammy Awards. He has promoted his current projects on his tonyvegaoficial Instagram account, where he has 260,000 followers.

Before Fame

After graduating high school, he got his start in the music industry as a band member of La Selecta, a well known salsa band.

Trivia

He was honored with the La Husca Award in Panama in 1992. He has been a part of a committee sent by the government of Puerto Rico to Spain to represent the island when it won the Prince of Asturias Award. In 1996, he became a "born again" Christian and remains active in the church.

Family Life

He was born in Salinas, Puerto Rico and moved to New York City with his family in middle school.

He and Marc Anthony performed in the opening ceremonies of the 1996 Gymnastics World Championships which took place in Puerto Rico.
