Before Fame
He graduated with a B.Sc. in chemical engineering from the University of Houston. He was then accepted, as a student, to the Islamic University of Madinah. After completing a diploma in Arabic, he graduated with a B.A. from the College of Hadith and Islamic Sciences. He then completed a M.A. in Islamic Theology from the College of Dawah. He then completed an MA, MPhil, and PhD from Yale University.

Family Life
He was born in Houston, Texas to Pakistani parents. He is the son of Mazhar Kazi. He resides in Plano, Texas with his wife and four children.
