Astromech droid whose name stands for Second Generation Robotic Droid Series-2. He is often seen accompanied by fellow robot character C-3PO and was a friend to Anakin Skywalker, Princess Leia, Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi at various points in the Skywalker saga.
Trivia
The character was inducted into the Robot Hall of Fame in 2003. Kenny Baker played it in the original three Star Wars films, but received billing credit for the prequel trilogy as the droid was mainly operated by radio controlled props and CGI models. Baker was a consultant for Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
