She is revealed to be the twin sister of Luke Skywalker. She and Han Solo have a son together named Ben, who is known by his own adopted name of Kylo Ren.

The role was originated in Star Wars: A New Hope by Carrie Fisher. The character's hairstyle and metal bikini from Star Wars: Return of the Jedi became cultural icons.
