Elia Kazan-directed adaptation of Tennessee Williams' Pulitzer Prize-winning 1947 play of the same name centering on Blanche DuBois, a southern belle who leaves her aristocratic background and seeks refuge after a series of personal losses.


The film marked the first of four consecutive Academy Award nominations for Best Actor for Marlon Brando, however, he was the lone actor of the film to not win an acting award. Vivien LeighKarl Malden and Kim Hunter won for Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress, respectively.
