After being crowned Miss Bahamas Universe 2011, she competed in that year's Miss Universe pageant in Sao Paulo, Brazil. In addition, she holds the distinction of being the first African-American winner of Miss Florida USA (2009) and has done modeling work for Sports Illustrated and for designers Christian Audigier and Betsey Johnson.
In her early years, she won the 2004 Miss Florida Teen USA pageant and was a runner-up in the 2009 Miss Earth United States contest and in the 2010 Miss Intercontinental pageant.
She earned a bachelor's degree in communications from Nova Southeastern University and subsequently worked for a Miami, Florida NBC affiliate.
Born to a family of Bahamanian and Haitian heritage, she spent her youth in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and Nassau, Bahamas.
Her fame grew exponentially after she met and was photographed with England's Prince Harry in 2012.
