Russian operatic soprano who is known for having performed at several major theaters including at the Vienna State Opera, the Mariinsky Theatre, and the Royal Opera House in London. She is also known for having starred as Natasha in the Metropolitan premiere of War and Peace in 2002.
She studied at the Saint Petersburg Conservatory and even worked as a janitor at the Mariinsky Theater. She made her operatic stage debut at the age of 22 when she starred as Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro. She made her first recording in 1995 when she starred in the opera Glinka Ruslan and Lyudmila.
She was awarded the State Prize of the Russian Federation in 2004 and was featured on Time Magazine's Time 100 list in 2007.
She married Uruguayan singer Erwin Schrott in April of 2008 and in September of 2008, he had a son named Tiago Netrebko.
She was given the Russian Federation National Award by then serving President Vladimir Putin in 2004.
