He lettered in basketball, baseball, and football at Bishop McCort High School in Johnstown, Pennsylvania.
He played for the Cincinnati Bengals, the Carolina Panthers, and the New England Patriots during his 10-year NFL career.
He grew up with a younger brother, Andrew Hawkins, who became a wide receiver for the Bengals.
He was briefly teammates with Steve Smith during his only season with the Panthers in 2004.
