Football starting guard for the Buffalo Bills who died a hero's death in South Vietnam.
He was the Buffalo Bills' starting guard during his first and only NFL season in 1968 and earned his team's rookie-of-the-year honor.
He entered the U.S. Army as a Second Lieutenant and was sent to Vietnam in 1969. He was stationed on a remote hill when he was struck and killed by enemy mortar in July of 1970.
His wife, Jan, gave birth to the couple's second child just hours before she learned of her husband's death.
He and fellow rookie football player, Pat Tillman, were both killed while serving their country.
