Remembered for his tough guy character roles in films and television series such as Alien 3 and The Sweeney, this British actor also had a stage career, starring in professional London productions of George Bernard Shaw's Saint Joan and Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream.
After graduating from the University of Sheffield, he pursued a professional wrestling career. Before becoming an actor, he also worked for more than a decade as a schoolteacher.
He frequently appeared as a wrestler on the ITV series World of Sport.
His second marriage was to television executive Tara Prem. He raised two children before tragically dying of brain cancer in his early sixties.
