From 2003 until 2005, this Republican Party politician held office as Governor of New Hampshire. Before launching his political career, he founded a successful New Hampshire computer company called Cabletron Systems.
After studying finance at Babson College, he earned his MBA from Syracuse University.
Before it was split into several different companies, Benson's Cabletron Systems business was bringing in nearly two billion dollars annually.
Born in New York City and raised in New Jersey, he later settled in New Hampshire with his wife Denise and the couple's two children.
He lost the 2004 New Hampshire gubernatorial election to Democratic Party politician John Lynch.
