Comedic actor who appeared in Carry On Sergeant, Carry On Constable, and Carry On Spying. In 1965, he appeared in Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines.
During World War II, he worked as a writer for the armed forces radio show, Merry Go Round.
He received a BAFTA Award in 1958 for Most Promising Newcomer for his role in the film, Brothers in Law.
He grew up as the youngest of three children. He married Pearl Hackney in 1936 and had a daughter named Petronella Barker.
He and Samuel L. Jackson both won BAFTA Awards.
