British novelist and children's author best known for his 1943 work Lassie Come-Home. His other works include This Above All and The Flying Yorkshireman.
Early in his life, he served in the Canadian Army. Later, while serving in the United States Army, he died in a plane crash over South America.
In the later years of his life, he settled on a Pennsylvania farm and raised collies.
His marriage to Dorothy Caroline Noyes Hall lasted from 1917 until 1932 and produced three daughters. He later married Jere Brylawski.
Actor Roddy McDowall starred in the popular 1943 film version of Knight's novel Lassie Come-Home.
