Self-trained triathlete who won gold at the Ironman World Championships in 1987 and in 1990.
She began competing in running when she was 15, at the suggestion of her mother.
At the end of her career, the magazine "Triathlete" declared her the best female triathlete that ever lived.
She married fellow triathlete Scott Molina, and has two children with him.
