Widely known for his tenure as the 4th Prime Minister of Qatar between 2007-2013. He had previously served as the nation's foreign minister between 1992-2013.
He earned his first job working for Qatar's government in 1982. He first worked as the director of the office of the minister of municipal affairs and agriculture. In 1989, he was appointed the minister of the office.
He helped to facilitate the agreement leading to a unity constitution in Yemen in 1990. He purchased Pablo Picasso's Les Femmes d'Alger Version O painting in 2015 for a record $179 million.
He and his wife Jawaher bint Fahad Al Thani share 14 children. His great-uncle is Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani, who is known as the founder of the nation of Qatar.
During his reign as Qatar's prime minister, he served under Emir Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.
