American politician and member of the Democratic party who served as a U.S. Senator from Wyoming from 1937 to 1943. He also served on the National Mediation Board from 1943 to 1947.
He worked in the newspaper business at Fort Recovery for three years before practicing law in Sioux Falls.
He started his political career in the South Dakota House of Representatives in 1896.
His parents raised him in Fort Recovery, Ohio.
He and John Barrasso both served as Senators from Wyoming.
