Burly actor who played the stuttering cowboy, Gabby Johnson, in Blazing Saddles, and directed low-budget exploitation films.
His acting debut came in the 1965 film, Like Father, Like Son, where he played Coach Jennings.
In addition to his film career, he directed episodes of Hill Street Blues, The A-Team, and The Dukes of Hazzard.
He grew up with his family in California.
One of his best directorial works, the campy drive-in classic, Cleopatra Jones, starred Shelley Winters.
