Former left-handed reliever and spot starter who won a World Series his rookie year with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1960. He went on to play for the San Francisco Giants, Cincinnati Reds and Houston Astros.
He played baseball at Hickory High School in Mississippi.
Used almost exclusively as a starter in 1961, he set career-highs in wins (13) and innings (195.1) while posting a solid 3.32 ERA.
He had four sons and a daughter.
Hall-of-Fame second baseman Joe Morgan was his teammate on the Cincinnati Reds.
