Republican politician who became the junior United States Senator for Arkansas in 2011. He previously was in the House of Representatives for ten years.
He played football for the Arkansas Razorbacks at the University of Arkansas before graduating from the Southern College of Optometry in 1977 and entering a private practice.
He was one of forty-six senators to vote against the passing of a bill which would have expanded background checks for all gun buyers in 2013.
He had three children with his wife Cathy.
He served in the Senate alongside fellow Arkansas Senator Mark Pryor.
