Democrat who was elected to represent California's 37th congressional district in the United States House of Representatives in 2013. She was the second woman to become Speaker of the California State Assembly.

She was previously married to Jesus Lechuga.
Starting in 2008, she worked as sixty-seventh Speaker of the California State Assembly while Arnold Schwarzenegger was the governor.
