British businessman who was the Life President and founder of Morrisons, the fourth largest supermarket group in the United Kingdom. He earned a CBE and was knighted in the year 2000.
He served in the Royal Army Ordnance Corps as a National Serviceman and he worked in the family provisions business.
His supermarket chain acquired Safeway in 2004 and he placed 35th in the Sunday Times Rich List 2007 ranking of the wealthiest people in the UK.
He had five children and his daughter Eleanor held the position of Poultry Buyer.
He was knighted in the 2000 new year's honours list for services to the food retailing industry by Queen Elizabeth II.
