Before fame

Family life
He is of Chinese Singaporean and English descent. He was born to English fashion model Joanne Cassidy and Chinese Singaporean martial artist, actor, and stunt coordinator Phillip Tan. He is the eldest of four brothers. His family relocated from England to Los Angeles when he was about one year old due to his father's work in the film industry. He spent parts of his childhood living in the United States, China, France, and Spain.
