Croatian artist whose most famous paintings were inspired by Dante's "Divine Comedy," a motif with which he was preoccupied for most of his career.
He studied at the Teacher's Academy in Zagreb, Heinrich Strehblow's art school in Vienna, and with Vlaho Bukovac at the Academy in Prague.
He painted in the Secession style and was associated with Vienna's Art Nouveau movement.
His family was residing in the town of Novi Marof when he was born.
He and Alphonse Mucha were fellow Art Nouveau painters.
