Though he also performed in numerous Broadway productions (including Tiger at the Gates and The Me Nobody Knows), Calloway is best remembered for his role as David on the popular PBS children's series Sesame Street.
Before joining the Sesame Street cast in 1971, he attended New York City's High School of Performing Arts and acted in a Stratford Shakespeare Festival production of A Midsummer Night's Dream.
He acted in a 1973 London West End stage production of the musical Pippin.
Sadly, suffering from both cardiac issues and psychological problems, he died in his early forties. He was survived by his mother and his two siblings.
He and Bob McGrath were both in the cast of Sesame Street.
