Pioneering structural engineer who founded the corporation Arup Group Limited in 1946. Some of his most well-known projects include the Kingsgate Bridge and Sydney Opera House.
He earned a degree in Engineering from the Technical University of Denmark in 1922.
He had a hand in designing the Mulberry temporary harbours used for the "D-Day" invasion of Normandy during World War II.
He married Ruth Sorensen in August 1925.
