British actor known to television viewers as the second Master in Doctor Who. He also performed in the Gilbert and Sullivan comic operas.
When he was only twenty-two, he joined the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company and played smaller roles for some time until he finally broke through as Robin Oakapple in Ruddigore.
In 1973, he appeared on several TV series including Murder Must Advertise, The Brontes of Haworth, Menace The Solarium, Play for Today Jack Point, and Z Cars Cadet.
He was married to Joyce Wright before later marrying Patience Sheffield.
