English folk singer-songwriter best known for founding the shoegaze band Slowdive, where she also served as vocalist and guitarist. She also co-founded the rock band Mojave 3 and has served as a member of the supergroup Minor Victories. In 2004, she released the album, "Waves Are Universal," as a solo artist.

She began attending classical guitar lessons when she was ten years old. She formed her first band with a school classmate in 1988.
Trivia
The 1993 Slowdive album, "Souvlaki," is widely considered to be a triumph of the shoegaze genre. In 2006, she briefly stepped away from her musical career after developing partial deafness and tinnitus due to labyrinthitis before ultimately returning with the 2014 reunion of Slowdive.
