He was primarily a left-handed batsman at Tonbridge school and earned his teaching credentials at Exeter University.
He was part of the English team that toured South Africa in 1990 in defiance of the international cricket boycott of the country.
His grandfather Henry was also a professional cricketer.
He was teammates with the English captain David Gower on their West Indies tour of 1985-86.
