American music journalist who served as music editor for The Village Voice for thirty seven years and came to be called the "Dean of American Rock Critics".
He got his Bachelor's in English from Dartmouth College and graduated in 1962.
He became well known for his reviews in the Consumer Guide, which were published once a month beginning in 1969 all the way until 2013.
He had one daughter, Nina, with his wife, Carola Dibbell.
He named Louis Armstrong among his top five music artists of all time.
