Physician for community health and epidemiology who was appointed Ontario Chief Medical Officer of Health and Assistant Deputy Minister of Public Health in 2004.
She was an assistant professor at the Department of Public Health Sciences at the University of Toronto and became the first Medical Officer of Health for Toronto in 1998.
She was widely praised for her work during the SARS outbreak in 2003.
She had one daughter, Simone, who was born in 1992.
She was awarded the Order of Ontario for her service and achievements in 2008, the same year as the iconic Barbara Ann Scott.
