Nepali pop singer, songwriter, and composer known for releasing multiple bestselling albums including Shoonya, Highway, Sutra, Sugam Yatra, School Pathshala, Sugam Songgeet, Shwyet Hansini, Tilasmi Kathmandu, and Nawomi. He has also become a prominent playback singer, lyricist, and music director for Nepali films including Maun, Mero Euta Saathi Cha, Woda Number 6, Nai Nabhannu La 4, and Prem Geet.

Before Fame

He began experimenting with music in the mid-1990s and released his first recorded single "Ma Maya Garchu" in 1995 though it didn't gain commercial success. He then worked as a librarian and RJ at Radio Sagarmatha where he developed his musical style before releasing his breakthrough debut album Shoonya in 2001. 

Trivia

He joined Nepal Idol Season 4 as a judge in 2021. He won Best New Artist of the Year and Best Male Vocal (Pop) at the 2003 Close Up Hits FM Music Awards. He received two major honors in 2018 by winning Playback Singer (Male) at the Radio Kantipur National Music Awards for "Pal Pal" and Best Playback Singer (Male) at the Cine Circle Award for "Ma Yesto Geet Gaunchhu."

Family Life

He was born into a family with four siblings and is the youngest child. His elder brother Sunil Pokharel is a well-known Nepali theater director and the founder of the Gurukul Theatre in Kathmandu. He married Liza Pokharel in 2002, and they have one daughter together.
