Before Fame
Prior to being drafted, he attended the University of South Florida. While there, he played both baseball and football. At one point during high school, he gave up playing baseball to focus on football.

He recorded a career-low 1.07 earned run average during the 2018 Minor League season. He also logged new career-highs in games played, innings pitched and strikeouts. He attempted to become a walk-on at South Florida to play quarterback, before switching to wide receiver.
