Before fame
He played cricket as a wicketkeeper when he was a teenager but temporarily stepped away to focus on his education. He studied architecture and earned a Bachelor of Architecture degree from SRM University. He worked briefly as an architect after graduating before deciding to pursue cricket full-time. He began training to become a professional cricket player when he was 25 years old. His breakthrough came in 2018 while playing for the Madurai Panthers in the Tamil Nadu Premier League and helping them win the championship and earning national attention. He made his international debut for India in July 2021.

He made a cameo appearance in the cricket sports drama film Jeeva as a club cricketer in 2014. He experienced one of cricket's notable comeback stories when he returned to India's T20I team in October 2024 after nearly three years away and immediately took three wickets against Bangladesh. He played an important role in India's 2025 ICC Champions Trophy victory.

He was born in Bidar, Karnataka, India, and grew up in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. He was born to Vinod Chakravarthy and Malini Chakravarthy. He married his longtime girlfriend Neha Khedekar in December 2020.
